3 Cheap Skin Savers

Simplification is a beautiful thing – and when it comes to skin care, you can skip the fancy scrubs, toners, and creams in exchange for cheap, healthy fixes!  Product overload is not only bad for your skin, but for your wallet and environment as well.  Here are three alternative skincare products that save your skin, your cash, and your world:

  1. Cheap hair conditioner replaces expensive shaving creams, and does a better job, leaving skin smoother and well-moisturized – for just over $1!
  2. Sugar cubes are the gentlest (and sweetest) facial scrub available.  Safe enough for everyday use, keep a small container in your shower (or wherever you keep your facial goodies) to use just before washing your face – just get the cube wet, and rub the sugar directly on your face.  Within days, you will notice you skin tone improve!  Plus, a $3 box will last you months.
  3. Witch hazel is the cheapest and most effective skin toner on the market.  For under $2, you can balance your skin’s pH…and smell like cookies in the process!  You can find witch hazel at your local pharmacy, usually next to hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol.

Also olive oil: after scrubbing apply olive oil and let sit for a few moment, and then wash off with soap. (don’t over wash, your skin will feel a little tacky for a few minutes but it’ll soak up left over olive oil in no time.) The benefit being that as you wash this moisturizer off it’s less likely to give you break outs.

    Thanks for the tip, Katharyn!

Great tips! I have been using sugar as an exfoliant 4 or more days a week for over a year. You’re right, it does work. I keep a small plastic Glad container of sugar in the shower that I pour on a blob of honey from the honey bear that I also keep in my shower. (Honey is very healing and it’s a great (super cheap) facial wash) I mix them and exfoliate my face and neck. (Whatever you do to your face, do to your neck) I also use the olive oil as a night wash – but that is my “expensive” wash; I buy Olive Oil cleanser, but it does last an entire year. (Christmas to Christmas;))
    What a fun blog!
